Last month, I shared a post on LinkedIn entitled, "The Choice is Ours".
I remember posting that on a Monday, a start of a brand new week. It read as :
"It's the start of another brand new week.
You have the choice yet again to navigate the week the way you want it to.
No matter how we navigate it, there is always a chance that some obstacles will come our way, big or small.
Our response to it is our choice, too.
Today, let's make our choice.
Have a pleasant and fruitful week ahead. "
After posting it, I kept going back to that post, reading it as I remind myself of the choices we have every day, with each passing hour, hence this writing, The Choice is Ours.
We are faced with many choices each day but often we take each day for granted (whether consciously or subconsciously). The options presented to us are taken lightly.
What if, we consciously make a choice before we start the day?
Everyone starts their day in their own unique way.
Some, meditate before they literally jump out of bed.
Some, jumps straight out of their bed and off to freshen up.
Some, coffee is their ignition.
Or some, working out, yoga or going for a run awakens every cell in their body.
Whichever way we kick-start our day, do we consciously tell ourselves that the moment we open our eyes, we promise to choose the day to be a fantastic day.
I confess, I don't too. (Chuckle!)
But on days when I do consciously make the choice, I noticed the days go at least 80 to 85% the way I want. My to-do list gets completed with great focus. My behavior changes as I am more aware of my actions, my speech. I am better at managing my expectations of the day.
Even if things get in the way, I still get upset but I remind myself that "It’s ok - things happen, let's see what I can do bout it."
Consciously making a choice doesn't come naturally when we open our eyes each morning - it's ok. I'd understand. Should you give it a try, though? I’d say ‘YES’. I do encourage you to give it a try.
If you can’t do it first thing in the morning, take it from any hour of the day. Within the 24 hours you have at hand, take a moment of consciousness and make the choice of how you want your next 2 hours to be. See how the next 2 hours unfold as you navigate how you progress.
I promise, you will first notice the instant change in your behavior.
Too difficult?
Give it a try of making the choice for the next month. Or the next week. Or the coming week.
Having made a choice, we understand that there can be things/events/situations that are out of our control.
That, there can be misalignment in our plans and goals.
We can get frustrated and lose focus in response to the challenges or we can be more mindful with our reactions towards it.
Mindfulness is reflected in a positive change in our behavior.
Our mind is geared towards understanding situations.
We seek to resolve matter in a calmer manner.
Our speech is more thought after.
Today, I made a choice.
I made the choice to share this content with you.
I made the choice to connect with the nature.
I made the choice to connect with myself.
Most of all, I made the choice to make today a good day.
I'd leave you with these words,
“We Choose How to Live Our Life.
We Choose How We Want to Navigate our Day.
The Choice is Ours!”
Good luck!
