I would like to start off my article by wishing everyone Happy International Women's Day!
On this day, we celebrate achievements of women around the world and I would like to also include the achievements of the young women and female child who are already making mark in their own arena.
Women have been fighting for equal rights for decades. Although we see the gaps are slowly closing but it is still a long way to go. Perhaps, we could start off by acknowledging the capabilities of women and their influences in the society.
Some things we could start doing or continue doing, just to name a few:
Looking after children, caring for households chores, etc are some of the tasks which can be shared between partners and/or amongst family members.
Colours should not be categorised as girls' colour or boys' colour. Pink is ok to be favoured by boys and it is ok for baby girls to wear grey or blue.
Women can make high-level decision constructively and they are not necessarily bossy or difficult.
Crying is an expression of sadness. Therefore it is ok for anyone to shed tear and women shedding tear does not mean weakness.
Compassion is not a women thing, it is every human's thing.
Women can (and should) begin acknowledging and supporting the achievements of other women; empower one another.
I am sure collectively, we could do a lot more. Perhaps, more women representation in the government and corporate sectors would further add value to the society. This may help eradicate and progressively reduce the violence against women in all forms.
